AAA: Parents, Sign An Agreement With Teen Drivers Before Handing Out Keys

A new research was just released and this one was created and done by the American Automobile Association which is commonly known as the AAA. And as per the results that came out with the research, the group told parents of teen drivers to first sign an agreement between them and their teen drivers before they actually do hand out the keys. Also aside from this, the study did also find out that with graduated driving licensing, or GDL, systems being used in some states, the number of teen driver crashes has significantly lowered.

The research was funded by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and they have titled it as the “Nationwide Review of Graduated Driver Licensing”. As part of the study, they did find out that there was a decrease of 38 percent in fatal crashes with teenage drivers behind the wheel. And this simply is not because the cars that the drivers used employed EBC brakes. Mainly, the study attributes the decrease to the tougher state laws on driving. There is quite a need for people to actually work on such an issue for it is no secret that vehicular crashes, accidents, and collisions have been pinpointed as one of the major causes of death for teenagers in the United States. In fact, facts from the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, or the NHTSA, there have been more than 4800 teenagers who lost their lives in car crashes for the year 2005 alone.

Robert L. Darbelnet, the president and chief head honcho of the AAA, attended a news conference in the state of Washington. During that media event, Darbelnet was recorded to have stated, “Through this study, we have seen that the enactment of laws is key to improving teen driver safety. So, today I am challenging legislators throughout the country to strengthen the GDL systems in their states to include the components that this study shows make a substantial difference in saving teen lives and reducing injuries.”
