AutoWeek Revealed Cadillac V12 Flagship

Submitted by correy

In 2003, General Motors unveiled the Cadillac Sixteen Concept Car and during that time, the concept car received rave reviews for its good looks and luxurious features.

The design was a concept but recent reports from AutoWeek shows that the design concepts from the concept car will be seen on a new vehicle being developed by General Motors’ Holden division which is based in Australia. In the magazine’s March 26 issue, AutoWeek will divulge information about the new Cadillac with a V12 engine being developed in the land Down Under.

The new vehicle is the cover story of the only weekly automotive magazine in the United States. AutoWeek reports that Holden, a division of General Motors, is developing the hardware for a super sedan equipped with a humungous V12 engine. If it is true that the new vehicle will take some of its design concept from the Cadillac Sixteen Concept, it would seem that Cadillac is on its way to creating one good looking car.

Aside from the good looks that the vehicle will sport, its V12 engine will surely provide enough power to make it one of the most powerful sedans in the market. The story is written by Greg Kable for the magazine with reports from Julian Rendell.

The story calls the V12 a car that would return Cadillac as The Standard of the World.

The weekly magazine reports that the car was designed with distinction in mind. And since Holden has a hand on the development of the vehicle, it was configured as a rear-wheel drive vehicle. Aside from that, AutoWeek reported that the new flagship will be placed at the top of GM’s lineup and will be equipped with luxury features never before seen on a Cadillac.

Aside from the unnamed features, the V12 engine powered vehicle will be equipped with advanced safety features and crash avoidance technologies. The early name for the new flagship is the Cadillac Twelve and it will be going up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S Class, the BMW 7 Series and the Audi A8.

The V12 engine, according to AutoWeek, is essentially two V6 engines sharing a common crankshaft. To provide a good power output and a good fuel economy, the engine will be equipped with a direct injection. It will also feature cylinder deactivation which means shutting down a number of cylinders when cruising.

This feature allows the engine to consume less fuel. A state-of-the-art automatic transmission will be used to enable smooth gear changes that will translate to better fuel economy and better ride comfort. Indeed, from the way things are looking, even the tailpipe of the Twelve will be made to look even better than a Dynomax exhaust pipe.

On the part of General Motors, Global Product Vice President Bob Lutz confirmed that they are indeed engaged in the development of a new vehicle with a V12 engine. It can be remembered that Lutz is a long-time advocate for the production of a luxury grand touring sedan from GM’s luxury division Cadillac.

What the motoring world outside of GM does not know yet is that if such a vehicle will pass as a production vehicle in the near future.
