German car manufacturer Volkswagen has been the pioneer of some of the world path breaking cars like the Beetle and the Jetta that have survived several car generations. Volkswagen has adopted the same vigour to make eco-friendly green technologies that will lead the company into the future of mobility. Almost all car manufacturers have at least one green car on their portfolio. Volkswagen has taken its commitment creating green mobility technologies far too seriously and has offered some amazing cars that offer comfort, performance and a greener environment.

Volkswagen has developed the BlueMotion Technologies which delivers better eco-friendly emissions as it covers a gamut of equipments that function in smooth co-ordination. The green systems include - start/stop system, regenerative braking, electric drives and hybrid systems.
It has already implemented some of its green technologies in a five models. Let us looks into what these products have to offer to consumers

Touareg hybrid

The 2010 Volkswagen Touareg features a V6 TSI hybrid technology. Volkswagen claims that it is the first hybrid SUV with 3.5 metric ton towing capacity. Under the hood its boasts of 332 bhp V6 TSI engine that is supercharged for massive hauling. It is assisted by a 50 bhp electric motor. The vehicle will solely use electric motor energy while driving under 50km/h. This system is expected to bring down pollution in urban centres as speed limits are often restricted to 50 km/h The more powerful V6 engine will be utilized only when speeds cross the 50 km/.h limits. The hybrid engine and the V6 engine are housed parallel in the engine bay.

Passat

The European Passat can be equipped with the BlueMotion 2 option on the 2.0 litre 108 bhp Turbo charged CRDI engine with the start/stop system. This system shuts off the engine when the car comes to stopped and come to life again when needed. As per Volkswagen fuel efficiency has increased by 25 km/l and has carbon emissions of just 128 g/km. The Passat BlueMotion 2 is equipped with a fuel tank that can provide uninterrupted drive of 1,400 kms. Volkswagen has initiated the BlueMotion 2 Technology to comply with next generation Euro V norms. The advantages of the BlueMotion also include reduced drag co-efficient, longer low gear ratios, filters diesel particulates for better fuel consumption.

Passat TDI

A Blue TDI is already being used in Passat that conforms to Euro VI regulations which will come into effect only from 2014. Volkswagen has pursued the emission levels with a vigorous zeal. The results are there for everybody to see. The Passat Blue TDI is fitted a 142bhp diesel engine with SCR catalytic converter with Adblue serve that helps decreases output of nitrogen oxides to 80mg/km. It is available in estate bodystyles in Europe. This helps improve fuel economy and minimize expenses.

Passat TSI Ecofuel

This Passat runs on natural gas that is why it is called TSI EcoFuel. The natural gas compatible petrol engine comes with a turbocharger and supercharger. The carbon emission levels are only 120g/kgm and can run for about 900 km on a fully filled tank at a stretch. Even as it is powered by natural gas, it can reach a maximum speed of 201 km/h and can go from 0-100 km/h in 9.7 seconds. The natural gas is very fuel efficient as it uses only 4.4 kg per 100 km, which is far to less than its petrol variant. This model is available in some parts of Europe.

Polo Bluemotion

The new Polo BlueMotion has already gone on sale in UK and is likely to come to India with the original Polo models. Volkswagen claims that this car lower costs on fuel expenses and helps save environment. This new clean variant Polo gets a 1.4 litre diesel engine Polo achieves a 0.3 coefficient drag and deliver 112.65 km/h power. If the Polo is equipped with BlueMotion 1 it has a 99 gm/km carbon emissions level. The new variant which comes with Bluemotion2 offers 104 gm/km. operating the Bluemotion is simple and easy to use by all drivers.

As the automotive world gears up for a greener tomorrow, car manufacturer have to speed up their research and development of more efficient car. Volkswagen already has in place next generation missions every time in a new model are created.
