Ford Recalls 145,000 Vehicles

Submitted by jasonmoore

Approximately 145,000 vehicles will be recalled by Ford Motor Co. in order to fix the reported door latches. The perils of having such defective latches in a vehicle include the malfunctioning of the doors and the possibility that the drivetrain can cause fracture.

Ford said that the side-door latch entertains the possibility of water intrusion. The latter condition can freeze the latch especially during winter or cold seasons. Aside from that, the door will no longer snugly fit the vehicle's body. As a result, the door might open in traffic.

Included in the list of vehicles that need to be recalled because of the reported defect are 139,537 2005 Five Hundred and Mercury Montego sedans and 2005-06 Freestyle crossover vehicles either sold or registered in 31 cold-weather states. The states covered include Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Although the reports about the defective latch are swarming, there are no reported accidents or injuries which have been linked to said defect. Kristen Kinley, Ford spokeswoman said, "Owners in the remaining 19 states will be notified of the condition and also will be able to have the latches fixed at no charge."

Ford is also recalling 6,164 2006 front-wheel drive Escape hybrids. Escape hybrid is the first vehicle to offer combined SUV prowess, superb fuel economy and low environmental impact. Ford Escape parts are used to significantly increase mileage and range. These parts are incorporated to make the vehicle perform smoothly and splendidly.

The recall is all about the fixing of defective drivetrain shafts. Said defect is capable of fracturing and preventing the powertrain from spreading power to the wheels so as to let the automobile move when in the park position. Same with this separate case, there has been no reports of crashes and injuries.
