A well-maintained car reflects your passion for your car. All those who truly admire their cars will take good care but others for whom cars are only a means of transportation mostly neglect car maintenance.

Car maintenance is very important as it helps to extend the life of your car. It also helps improve performance and mileage. It is believed that about 5% of the total car failures are caused as a result of maintenance neglect. Therefore, the significance of car maintenance cannot be ignored.

Here are top 10 car maintenance tips that may be useful to extend the life of your car:

1. Firstly, it is very important to get your car checked at authorized service centres only. If you feel any kind of problem occurring in your car and you can’t understand what to do then drive to the service centre of your car brand and get it serviced.

2. Check the car engine oil once in every fifteen days to ensure appropriate oil level. If in case you find any adulterant in the oil, change it immediately before it starts to hamper engine performance. If you need to replace the engine oil, make sure that you use branded oil as recommended by the car manufacturer.

3. Check the level of engine coolant once in two weeks. If the level of coolant is low it will cause overheating which in turn will damage the engine and its components.

4. Also check the brake fluid and transmission fluid once every fortnight to ensure proper functioning of the brakes and the transmission.

5. Avoid sudden braking and accelerating as this will cause a serious damage to the braking system and the transmission as well as affect the functioning of the engine.

6. Ensure to switch off the engine whenever not required. This can be done in case there is a long wait at the traffic signal or if you are waiting for someone. Switching off the engine in such situations helps to reduce fuel-consumption and increase fuel-efficiency.

7. Excessive use of air condition reduces fuel-efficiency and pulls maximum energy from the car battery. So, use the car air conditioner only when it is necessary.
8. Always apply an anti-rust coating on your car before the beginning of monsoon season. This will prevent your car from rain water damage.

9. Avoid driving your car on the clutch pedal. Make sure that you release the clutch completely while driving.

10. Last but not the least, tyre care is equally important. Maintain optimum air pressure in car tyres as both under-inflation and over-inflation can cause premature failure, which may cause an accident.
