Top 15 Car Painting Tips

Car painting is a joyful and entertaining task that can be enjoyed if you know the art of car painting. Not everyone can buy a new car every year but a faded look of the car is distressing for all. The best way to give life to the looks and appeal of your car is to get it painted.

Car paint will help remove stains, scratches, and holes from the car exterior and give a refreshing look to the car. You can get your car painted at the garage or do it yourself at home.

Here are the top 15 car painting tips that may help you paint your car at home:

1.First gather all the things required for doing car paint. You need car wax, car paint, grease remover, spray gun, clear coat paint, masking tape, primer, and a clean cloth.

2.Then park your car in an enclosed but well-ventilated area because it is important to keep the car away from dust and grime.

3.Paint fumes have some amount of solvents that may be poisonous. So, its advisable to wear glasses and respirator mask while painting your car.

4.After your are completely ready to do the paint job, was your car thoroughly with a car washing detergent. Clear all the dust deposits on the car and dry it with a clean and fresh cloth.

5.Strip off the the scratches using a solvent based paint remover. If there are any small holes in the car exterior, fill them up with putty.

6.Use a sand paper to smoothen the exterior. Rub it well on rough areas and make sure that the car is smooth before you start painting.

7.Then cover the areas like mirrors, car windows, and car door trimmings that are not required to be painted. Cover them well with a masking tape because car paint may leave stains on them.

8.Let the primer dry and again use sand paper to smooth all the rough areas.

9.Then use a urethane-based car paint of the desired car colour and apply the base coat. Let it dry for ten to fifteen minutes.

10.Use spray gun to paint your car.

11.Then apply the second paint coat and let it dry for about half an hour.

12.In between two coats, make sure that you clean the nozzle of the spray gun because flakes of dried paint may cause imperfection.

13.Also use a sand paper after every coat to smoothen the car surface.

14.Its advisable to use light colours because they retain their brilliance over the years when compared to dark colours that are more susceptible to oxidation.

15.You can apply as many coats as you desire. Once you are satisfied with the number of coatings, allow it to dry completely and then apply a wax polish to give an excellent finish.
