Top 5 SUVs in Indian Car Market

SUVs have recently gained prominence in the Indian car market. Gone are the days when SUVs were pictured as boxy structure and open roofs like the traditional Gypsy and Jeep. Today, these SUV segment has come a long way to bring a whole new transformation in the fortune of the segment. In the present era, the SUVs are roomy and spacious family cars adorned with luxuries and a host of utility car features.

Explained below are the top 5 SUVs in Indian car market:

Tata Safari Dicor

The Tata Safari is known to mark the beginning of the SUV segment with adorned luxuries. Though the Gypsy and Sierra were introduced earlier than the Safari but this SUV was Tata Engineering's answer to various SUVs in the global market.

The car is designed with international standards, delivering a perfect combination of power, performance, acceleration, and mileage. Safari comes in many variants and two drive configurations out of which the Tata Safari Dicor is the hot time favourite among young car consumers. It is available in two versions with an engine option of 2.2L VTT diesel and 2.0L MPFI petrol.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

Maruti Suzuki entered the SUV segment with the launch of Grand Vitara. This SUV comes to India with a single engine option of 2.0L VIS Inline-4 petrol engine with a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission.

This SUV with an enthralling exterior design and futuristic interiors is liked by most of the consumers. The 5-seater configuration and contemporary design cues makes the car even more impressive. It gives an impressive mileage of 16 km/l in city and about 22 km/l on highways.

Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra Scorpio is another most successful SUV in India. Mahindra is known for designing and manufacturing general purpose vehicles in the market. Maintaining its prominence in the market, the company introduced the Scorpio which turned out to be an immediate hit in the market. Powered by a 2.6L turbocharged Inline-4 diesel engine, this SUV offers impressive power output and performance. Recently the company has also launched the automatic version of its Scorpio that is powered by a 2.2L mHawk aluminium CRDe Inline-4 engine.

Both the versions of the Scorpio are popular among Indian car consumers because of the excellent engine technology, futuristic interiors, and spacious cabin. It gives an impressive fuel efficiency of about 9 km/l in city and about 14 km/l on highways.

Honda CR-V

In the Indian car market, Honda CR-V is the highest selling car that gives its valued customers riveting comforts of a sedan and rigidity of a SUV. The undaunted real time drive system along with the advanced 2.4L i-VTEC Inline-4 engine, helps improve performance, acceleration, stability, handling, and fuel efficiency.

Mitsubishi Outlander is one of the recent and the most significant addition in the list of Indian SUVs. The car is propelled by a 2.4L MIVEC I4 engine that delivers a power output of168 bhp of power. Mated with a 6-speed INVECS-III CVT and a 6-speed manual mode, the car offers excellent performance, handling, and stability.

The interior of the car is equally attractive and elegant. It is adorned with stylish headlamps, LED tail lamps, integrated fog lamps, chrome plated door handles, and colour keyed power door mirrors. It gives an impressive fuel efficiency of about 8 km/l in city and about 11 km/l on highways.
