Improving Fuel Mileage

Submitted by fourwheel101

Due to the fact that fuel prices have been hovering at record levels, increasing vehicle fuel mileage is one the major aims of vehicle drivers today and for the coming years. There are a number of tips available on the World Wide Web that give ways on how to improve fuel economy. Choosing a fuel-efficient car or sport utility vehicle, keeping tires properly inflated, applying the right octane level for the vehicle, changing the oil on a definite time and lessening excess load are just some of the many convenient and easy ways to gain better fuel mileage.

But truck owners, most of the time, don’t realize that there are performance products available on the market that are designed and constructed to amplify fuel mileage. By enhancing your diesel performance and power qualities, you can dramatically improve the fuel efficiency of your car. Diesel emissions and oil stays cleaner longer, amplifying power and functionality and also extending the life of the engine!

Below is a list of diesel performance products that can give improved fuel mileage:

Air Intake Systems – Air filters and air intakes can improve fuel economy by bringing adequate amount of air into the internal-combustion engine. The dirt particles can be trapped inside the passages and then eventually generate obstruction, resulting to great airflow limit. And when this occurs, only a lower amount of oxygen is available for combustion with fuel, thus resulting to poor performance. But with the use of air filters, no more dirt that can obstruct the oxygen from going to the engine, thus creating greater combustion. And this can result to better fuel mileage, and it can extend the longevity of your engine. On the other hand, the air intake kits are used to replace the stock engine’s filter and air box. The kit can increase air flow and allows the engine to breathe easier, thus creating more torque and horsepower.

There are several makes of air intakes on the market today that offer the same purpose which is to maximize air flow going to the engine for efficient fuel combustion. In addition, air intake products are available in various styles and configurations, and are built using metal, rubber, silicone and other composite substances.

Exhaust Systems – If you think that exhaust systems can’t improve fuel mileage, think again. Generally, stock exhausts with narrow pipes and stiff bends restrict the flow of gases coming out from the engine which lead to choking the engine. If this is the case, your vehicle will have poor combustion thus decreasing its performance and will have inefficient fuel utilization. But with use of aftermarket exhaust systems, you can have a free flowing system where burnt gases from the engine will flow and quickly come out in the tailpipe, leaving no barriers to the passage. Proper flow of burnt gas helps produce superb engine combustion which can lead to improved gas mileage. Not to mention the intense torque and horsepower that your car can have, making towing, hauling and climbing virtually effortless.

Different makes and kinds of exhaust kits are available today. Depending on the design of the system, an exhaust kit may include an exhaust manifold, cylinder head, catalytic converter, cylinder head and a free flowing muffler.

Electronic Tuning Products – Re-programming your car’s computer to optimize its tuning according to your particular arrangements and style of driving is also another method of getting enhanced gas mileage. As we all know that majority of stock vehicles are just tuned to accommodate average drivers in a wide variety of conditions. Therefore, if you want to regulate your vehicle stock configurations to fit your preference and driving needs, program tuners and electronic controllers are powerful solutions particularly for computer-controlled vehicles. Also, there are performance chips that are programmed for maximum power and to provide better fuel mileage than the stock tuning.

Remember that the mentioned products above may improve your gas mileage. But still, the greatest practice is to run your auto more efficiently and keep it tuned accurately to save fuel on your everyday trip.
