Much-Awaited Nissan And Ford Pairing

Submitted by tombailey

It has been suggested by some of the analysts in the automotive industry that Nissan should pair up with Ford. Others are saying that Nissan might be barking at the wrong tree with General Motors. This is in connection with the ongoing Detroit excitement created by Kirk Kirkorian, Carlos Ghosn, and Rick Wagoner.

One of the automobile news authorities published, “As bloated and monolithic as GM may seem on the surface, its fundamental health and R&D resources seem to be on track to recovery with a potentially full-blown product renaissance in the next few years. Ford, on the other hand, seems to be barely hanging on by a thread. The Dearborn boys may be in much greater need of a partner than the General. So naturally, automotive analysts are all abuzz about this possible pairing. Nissan of late has dramatically streamlined its supplier relationships and production flexibility, two things that could greatly benefit Ford. They’ve also noted, erroneously or not, that Nissan and Ford have much less product overlap than GM and Nissan.”

According to many analysts the possible pairing of Nissan and Ford has no precedent. Nonetheless, said pairing is encouraged to boost the potentials of each automaker. Nissan’s early ventures include Mercury Villager and the pioneer of Nissan Quest. It incorporates auto parts Nissan which are results of extensive studies and ventures.

What makes the proposal different from that of previous proposals made by Nissan is that it may include a more extensive coupling than a single joint-venture on one vehicle. It is blatant that Ford, though has entertained many changes, is still strictly family-controlled. This is one unique factor of Ford compared to other American automakers and global manufacturers. Moreover, with Ford’s structure the query whether Nissan’s would-be proposal will be accepted by the Ford family is still hot. Another situation that needs to be taken into account by the two automakers if ever the pairing will prosper is the voting rights. Will Ford assent to equal voting rights – said query will be further addressed when the pairing comes into existence.
