Pack Ahead and Get Some Extra ZZZ's

Whether you're going cross country or just away for the weekend, packing the car for a trip can be stressful and time consuming, especially if you have kids or you're packing an RV, also. But, with a little bit of planning and packing the night before you're guaranteed to be more prepared and a little less stressed when it is time to leave. Before you begin packing, though, take everything out of your vehicle. This is a great time to clean it out to allow more space for the trip and make sure everything is in good shape, like the spare tire!

Packing the car, or RV, the night before a big trip accomplishes several things. First, it allows you to pack at a leisurely pace so you are not rushed and panicked, leaving you stressed out just before you get behind the wheel. You will be able to hop in your vehicle well rested and relaxed in the morning with your coffee in hand, more able to enjoy the journey, and with more patience to keep the kids happy.

Second, it gives you more time to think about what you have packed so you don't forget anything, and so you can decide whether you really need to bring certain things. To make things easier, make a list for the trip. Separate it into categories and people, and use it as a check list when you're leaving and want to be sure you're not leaving anything behind. And, pack backward. What you use first in the car is what you should pack last.

Next, it allows you to plan better for travel activities and food to bring for the drive. Pack simple games the kids enjoy, or their electronics. Watching a DVD or listening to their music will sure keep the kids entertained and the car quiet for a little while! Also, pack an assortment of munchies for throughout the day, and even lunch to save a stop. This will save you money and time on the road if you don't have to keep stopping for food and drinks, not to mention food and activities keep the kids busy!

One final bonus is that it might buy you a couple of hours of quiet time at the beginning of your drive. If you can leave early enough because the car is packed and ready, pick the kids up out of bed and let them continue to sleep in the car. Just make sure you packed pillows and blankets in the car. You'll have some peace and quiet to focus on making sure everyone is ready to go and getting the trip started. You can have an easy breakfast in the car, when they wake up, and they can change out of their pajamas whenever, they're in the car!

Packing the night before will help you get on the road sooner, which means you'll arrive at your destination sooner!
