Truck Parts

Submitted by glady

In automotive terminology, a truck generally refers to a vehicle used for transporting bulky cargoes and equipments. Indeed, trucks came into existence for that purpose alone. But as luck would have it, years passed and the automotive industry served as witness to the evolution of trucks into varying makes, models, sizes, and specific functions. Generally, trucks share a common construction: the ‘chassis’ or the truck frame, the ‘cab’ which pertains to the space where the driver is seated, the truck bed wherein the cargo is placed, the all-important engine system, a set of wheels, and an assortment of axles and suspensions. All these parts are relevant for a vehicle to be recognized as a truck. However, all these parts tend to vary in forms and structures with regards to the existing truck types nowadays. Presently, trucks are generally divided into four categories: off-road trucks for mining and for which, as the name implies, never use public roads; heavy trucks meant for long-haul purposes; medium trucks usually used for dump trucks and firefighters’ vehicles; and the popular light trucks meant for individual use.

Conversely, it is the Lightweight pickup truck that reaped the biggest attention and underwent the most number of upgrades. These trucks are now ingrained in the automotive industry as part and parcel of the commercial vehicle line. Famous car brands who have released their own versions of the pickup truck include Cadillac, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Lincoln, Mazda, Nissan, and Toyota. These brands can be held responsible for the transformation of the old school light pickup truck into the sleek and powerful machine it is known today.

As it is, with the goal of coming up with the finest pickup truck in the market, competitions among these brands have become positively fierce. This has resulted to the mushrooming of superior features and parts for the pickup, much to the consumer’s delight. In terms of the engine system, V8 and V6 engines are the normal shoo-ins for maximum horsepower and torque. The top models also incorporated value-added features in their engine, which would include the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) capability, as well as the flexible-fuel capacity (FFV) that provides drivers the option of operating their pickup on ethanol, gasoline or a mixture of the two. Moreover, dual-position tailgate becomes standard equipment on most models, as it provides increased functionality for cargo bed hauling. Consumers are also offered with their choice of transmissions with the advanced 5-speed automatic, 6-speed manual, or a 5-speed manual transmission, among other variations. Also available in the market today are powerful 4-wheel disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). With regards to exteriors and aesthetics, tonneau covers are made scratch and dent-resistant in order to maintain its style as it secures the pickup’s cargo by keeping it out of sight. Wheels can be chosen from materials of alloy, steel, and chrome plates. Other top-of-the-line truck parts being improved and inserted with additional features include cold air intake systems, air filters, bumpers, roof racks, grille inserts, light guards, and many others. Indeed, the light pickup truck has come a long way into transforming into a vehicle, which is not only lauded for its durable function, but also on its gorgeous flair and optimum performing capabilities.
