Vettel Cruises To Korea VictorySubmitted by Osborne Sun, 16 Oct 2011
When you've already won the World Championship, but still have races left in the Grand Prix calendar, what do you do?
Drive a good race, relax a little safe in the knowledge that no-one can beat you, and maybe pick up a few more points to add to your overall tally for the season? Or drive like you have for most of the rest of the races, dominate from start to finish, and show the world what a great champion you really are? Happily for those attending the Korean Grand Prix and the global television audience, Sebastian Vettel chose the second of the two options, and took the chequered flag in convincing style, and with Monaco Grand Prix tickets now on sale for 2012 it will help boost ticket sales for the premier F1 event. Even with Vettel in dtermined mood there was no guarantee that it would be a walk in the park for him as it had been in so many other races this year, with Lewis Hamilton in pole position. But on just the fourth corner Vettel overtook Hamilton, and led the rest of the race to win in convincing style - and sparked celebrations for the Red Bull team for the second weekend in a row as they won the 2011 Constructors' Championship, after Vettel had secured the Drivers' Championship in Japan just a week ago. However Lewis Hamilton can also take satisfaction from his second position in Korea, he had been criticised recently for some of his driving and teammate Jensen Button had been securing more points and podium places in recent races, which included winning at the Japanese Grand Prix. He was fighting for second place for virtually half the race with Red Bull's Mark Webber, and prevented a Red Bull 1-2 in Korea. Hamilton said it was good to be back in post-race interviews, and that he had been under pressure and was happy with his performance. And the McLaren team boss echoed his sentiments by commenting that it was a great drive from Lewis, and that he was proud of what he did. Jenson Button meanwhile in the other McLaren came fourth, just ahead of Fernando Alonso in a Ferrari - with both Red Bull and McLaren putting in great performances this year Ferrari have had to settle for some points but few podium places, and it can't be regarded as a good season for them. Commenting on his win in Korea, Sebastian Vettel said that it was good that his whole team had been pushing for victory despite him already being crowned champion, and that the longer the race progressed he was getting quicker and quicker. Korea marked Vettel's 20th Grand Prix victory, and it will be interesting to see if he pushes as hard in the three remaining races of 2011 in India, Brazil and Abu Dhabi now that Red Bull have won the Constructors' Championship, or if he will be thinking ahead for 2012 and a possible third title in as many years.
