21 Storage Tips No One Told You AboutSubmitted by willard_7ph Sun, 15 Mar 2009
1.Eliminate clutter. This can be the number one problem when it comes to storage.
2.Don't store things that you don't think you are going to use anymore. This can cause a major problem. 3.Store things in boxes or containers that are made for that particular item. This will allow you to store things more clearly. 4.Put smaller containers into larger ones if you don’t need to be in and out of them often. 5.Store things that you use often in clear containers and put them on a shelf so that you can see what you are looking for easier. 6.Keep the things that you need at the front, whether this is on a shelf or in a storage box. This will make it easier to find. 7.Store things where you need them. Put pet supplies in the room where the pets live, and put studying supplies in a room where studying is done. 8.Having a place for everything means that there should not be anything left laying out during the day. 9.Make sure that you store things safely, in boxes that are watertight and pest-proof. 10.Store things according to when you use them – put all of the holiday decorations together in the attic, and store old books and clothes in a different pile. 11.Clearly mark boxes and if you use a box for another purpose, put tape over the old markings so there isn't any confusion. 12.Get rid of the cardboard and replace it with plastic. This will allow your items to maintain their color and be safer while you store them. 13.Once a year, go through your storage areas and re-evaluate. If you find things that you don't want to store, give them away. This will also allow you to reorganize and store new items that you have found during the year. 14.Have your family and friends help you clean out your storage – they might be more apt to ask for things and you can give them those things so you don't need to store them any more. 15.When you find things that need to be stored, take them directly to the place where they go. Don't leave them laying around for months. 16.Use seasonal storage as well, for items like winter clothing and holiday decorations. 17.Have temporary storage in your bedroom, your kitchen, and other areas for items that go there but you aren't using at that particular moment. 18.Have a yard sale once a year to get rid of excess storage. 19.Mark items that are absolutely important to save as such, so they aren't accidentally thrown away. 20.Store your items somewhere that is temperature controlled, with no excess moisture. 21.Don't feel bad about putting items into storage – this will help you cut back on the clutter in your home. Following these tips will help you store things more creatively and successfully as well.
