Buying Furniture from CatalogsSubmitted by andrewmichaels Thu, 7 Jul 2011
Catalogs from furniture companies are usually made by professional designers and printer on good quality paper. They spend good money on their catalog printing but whatever they have paid for is worth it because you are really moved to buy their wonderful creations. You cannot help but browse through the beautiful pages and imagine if a particular product is suited for this and that part of your house. Even if you don't need anything, you are motivated to buy because of the wonderful presentations in the catalog.
But don't be fooled into thinking that everything is what they seem on the catalog. Of course we know that catalogs were designed to bring out the best of these furniture pieces for sale so no matter how beautiful they look on the pages, buying should still depend on your need. Perhaps the greatest advantage of ordering furniture from catalogs is that, almost always they offer free shipping. And even if it is not entirely free, at least the company representatives will be the ones to handle the shipping arrangements. All you need to do is to wait for your order to arrive and to ready the areas where you will place them. Just as the advantage is already a very good excuse to purchase furniture from a catalog, there are also disadvantages. The fact is, you cannot see or feel the piece of furniture that caught your interest. You are not even sure if that is the kind that you want—except that it looked right on the photo. So if you do really need to purchase some items and you would rather just conveniently browse a reading material than bring yourself to the store, here are some tips that you might find handy. 1. Assess the different areas of your house and decide on which parts really need new furniture. Write them down in a notebook and leave space for your notes. Would you need a new cabinet, chair, desk, sofa, divan, or side tables? 2. Describe the area—the position of the furniture, the color and theme of the room, etc. Write them on your notes. 3. Measure the available space. Look at the room. Though you think you may have some space for a cabinet, you cannot let the cabinet occupy all the areas. You have to leave room for walking or sitting or opening its doors. You have to estimate how a certain size would fit. Use a measuring tape and write down exact measurements. 4. When a furniture catalog arrives in the mail, go over it and look at the pieces that match your requirements—make, material, and size. When you have found the perfect item for your purpose, look at the price. Is it something that you can afford? 5. Call the furniture company. Ask if they offer installment plans, mode of payment, free delivery, money back guarantees, etc. Make sure that these things are in place before buying. Usually these companies who in the business of selling stuff on their catalogs have very friendly call center support because they have been doing this for a long time. Just ask the questions on your mind and they will be happy to answer. That would be better than assuming anything and regretting it in the end. Furniture pieces that are featured in catalogs look really nice but just make sure that you need what you are buying and you have the money to buy them. Do the tips above and you will be ready to make your purchase when their next catalog printing is out.
