The design process is very important in every marketing campaign you have, be it catalog printing, flyers, or envelope printing. It is during this time that you put into words and visual presentation all that you would want to convey to your target audience. It is at this point when you create the outline of what you would want to have at the end of your project.

The design process for your project such as your envelope printing can make or break your collateral. It is at this time that you put everything in paper. It is at this time that you nip and tuck, finalize and polish all the elements needed to present a well designed collateral.

But it is not always a bed of roses when you’re designing your collaterals. In fact, it is during the design process that problems arise. Hence, you need to be wary of things that can complicate and get you print envelopes for example, that you don’t want and need.

A few steps and you’re on your way to having a smoother design process for your collaterals:

Organize, plan, budget –
The very first step is to organize, plan and budget your way to your collaterals such as your print envelopes. Your budget should include the whole process of envelope printing – from writing to editing, designing your layout, choosing your photos and images, selecting the paper, producing your print envelopes, until the final bundling and shipping of your collaterals. Be sure to consider also your distribution as it provides a big portion of what you have for your budget.

Set a deadline. Everything that is included in the production should be determined in your deadline. To make it even easier for you to track your progress, set individual deadlines for each of the process. Start from the day you would want to get your collaterals, then work your way back to the design stage. To provide plenty of time for possible corrections and editing, add extra time for such.

Create a design brief –
In order for you to have for example, a customized envelope printing that is appropriate to your business and target clients, create a design brief that will identify your objectives, message, and your budget. It would be easier for you to start your design brief if you know your target market and your purpose in printing envelopes. Not only will you be able to customize your design to your target market, it’ll also help you stay within your budget and finish well in time of your deadline.

Do your layout –
So you’ve chosen your design and set your deadlines, it’s now time for you to create your layout. Use a software program to help you put everything into one document.

Proofread, check, edit –
Before you finalize your design, make sure that you have all your images in their right place, as well as you have the right content. No misspelled words and wrong grammar please in your collateral. Go over your information not just once or twice, but more times if you can. Hire a proofreader even. The key is to have everything in their proper place so you won’t look incompetent and unprofessional when your target clients get to see the final print job.

Finally, provide your printer with ready-to-print disk for reproduction of your design project. Always remember to have a print draft before you give your collateral for final press. As always, edit, edit, edit.
