The size and level of color in label printing precisely depends on the purpose of your custom labels. This is a very important concept to consider in label printing since you do not want to print labels that are inappropriate in achieving its goals. If you want to know the proper sizes and design style that you need for common types of labels, below is a nice guide that should tell you how it all should work.

Product labels - The most common color labels that are in print today are product labels. As such, in most cases the variety of product labels in terms of size and color can be quite enumerable to count. If you plan on printing product labels of your own however, the proper size for it should be the proper one for the product.

Usually, the label should cover most of the product so that people can readily identify its brand or its maker. In terms of color, most people use the distinctive color theme that each brand or maker uses. Both of these properties are the minimum required however, since as product labels, you can actually be as creative as you like with these labels. So if you are feeling particularly creative, you can use any size of label you like that has all the colors of the rainbow. Just make sure though that the design fits the theme and dignity of your product.

Warning labels - Warning labels on the other hand are usually printed as large as you can comfortably can. Since they are of course warning labels, everybody should be able to see them from quite a distance. In terms of color, bright colors like yellow and orange should be used in this kind of label since people will most easily recognize those colors as colors of warning. The bigger and more eye catching they are, the more effective warning labels should be. So keep this in mind when you do create colored warning labels .

Catalog labels - Catalog labels on the other hand are the complete opposite of warning labels. For most archiving or filing tasks, adding catalog reference IDs or labels will only require simple designs. White sticker paper, with the main ID or even the bar code should suffice. No other special color is necessary since you will not really need to advertise the thing with catalog labels. Also in terms of size, you will only need small catalog labels in most cases. The dimensions should be large enough for the label to have its ID and its bar code printed on it but that is all. Cataloging labels should be only functional and not really creative.

Personal labels - Finally, for personal name labels, it is best to use full color labels so that you can take advantage of any kind of design that strikes your fancy. Moreover, the size itself of your personal label should match the things that you want to put them on. So try smaller sizes if you plan on putting them in mundane items like notebooks, while you can go for larger labels if you think you need more space to advertise your marketing message. So more or less, the decision is yours really.

That should be enough for you to know how your custom labels should look like in different situations. Use the tips wisely and try to integrate their suggestions for your own things.
