Marketing Activities That Are Affordable For Small BusinessesSubmitted by andrewmichaels Tue, 18 Aug 2009
Compared to a big Fortune 500 company, small businesses are at a disadvantage probably because of their very limited marketing budget and marketing plan. Comparing with these big guys in terms of marketing strategies, they definitely can produce and mount such huge campaigns that people will always remember and be attracted to.
But take heart if you're a small business. There are advantages to promoting at a small scale. For many small businesses, the business owners are not afraid to try out new things and ideas, hence, they can very well make improvements on their sales growth. Plus, small businesses can measure results immediately as they only have to contend with a much smaller scale of marketing perimeter. Thus, small business owners can already get their feedback quickly. This is especially useful when sales are down. When that is the case, you definitely would need to try out new things in your marketing activities. On the other hand, when sales are up, a marketing plan prepared will be your best bet to maintain your place. To help you steer your business to the right direction, here are some helpful tips so you can keep track of your momentum: 1- Consistently mail your collaterals to your target clients. Even when it's not the season for giving out greeting cards for example, you can always print a stack for all seasons with the help of your printing company, whether it's online printing or the traditional one. You'll surely get noticed when everyone else is marketing with flyers or posters when it's off season for greeting cards. Let people know of your promos and sales using your cards and send them to your target clients all year round. 2- Look for guest speaking activities. Be a guest speaker and talk about your business. People are always on the lookout for experts and they would surely appreciate an interesting and informative speaker. You can always check out local bulletin boards and the ads on the local paper for these activities. Consider what you have an expertise on and share relevant information to groups. When you've decided on a particular activity, contact the person in charge. They probably are looking for guest speakers and would be glad to have a call from you. After your talk, don't forget to have a list of contact information from the audience. You can follow up on them with your greeting cards or even your brochures for possible sales. 3- Look for a partner. Small businesses need not market on their own. You can join forces with other small businesses that are in the same niche such as you. Produce marketing collateral that carries both your products and services; and have a printing company, whether online printing or the conventional printing, print the ad for you. You don't have to pay much as you can share the printing costs together.
