Prepare a Catalog for your New Business

It is a dream of many people to own a business and be their own boss. You know that the startup period can be a tough one, especially the marketing or selling side, but you know that it is all worth it because the profits of your hard work will be yours alone. If you already have your product line and even your inventory, you are probably wondering now about the marketing methods that you will use to get your products moving. Why not consider producing catalogs? You may endeavor to have catalog printing as well as producing an online catalog.

Catalogs are a very convenient way of promoting your business. This is especially true if you are just starting your small business and you do not have people to do the selling for you. When you are marketing something, the first customers that you can think of are your friends and relatives. But bringing a sample each of your product line, displaying them on the table of you contact, and packing them up again can prove to be very tiring experience. You have not gone far yet and you will already experience getting burn because of this no-brainer work.

But if you have a catalog, you can bring it along with you wherever you go. You can conveniently stash it in your bag and take it out when necessary. You just have to prepare some order forms so that your clients can fill them up if they have decided to make the order.

Your catalog need not be done by a professional or printed at a printing house. All you need is a digital camera, a computer, and a printer and you can already do it yourself. These three things are usually very common in most homes nowadays so these should not be a problem.

Here are some general guidelines that you can follow:

1. Take good quality photographs and save them in your computer.

2. Decide on the size of your catalog. You can probably produce one that is the size of a half bond paper.

3. In one page, depending on your product, you can probably feature only one to two products. That will give you space for the details.

4. Write a short description of your products. Include the price, shipping costs, or discounts if applicable.

5. Prepare a cover. It could feature one of your best creations.

6. Make sort of an introduction or a personal message and include it in the first part of your catalog.

7. Look for a nice quality paper. It should not be ordinary bond paper because it can easily tear.

8. Print one copy first and check for errors. That way, you will not have to waste your materials when you realize that there are so many errors.

9. Save a copy of your layout in PDF format so that you can easily upload it online and capture another market (if you are ready).
These are just simple things that you can consider while preparing your own catalog. It may entail some effort on your part but the expense of catalog printing is not so much because you already handled the photography, the layout, as well as the processing. Your first catalogs may not look that nice but do credit yourself for doing it and just improve on it the next time.
