Hang tags are very easy to print online. With a relatively small design to deal with, hangtags can be designed and printed within an hour, and after that you can just send it to a hang tag printing service for overnight printing. The process is really as simple as that. However, some people can make mistakes through the hang tag printing process that can cause delays. This is usually caused by the lack of preparation as you send a hang tag design to the printer. There are a few steps that you need to take before sending hangtag designs. One of the main steps is to set your specifications.

The first specification that you need to decide on is the size of your hangtags. Hang tags can actually come in different sizes. The smallest product hangtag can be as little as 2x3.5 inches. The biggest one can come at 4x6 inches which is almost half a letter paper. It is a good idea to ask your hang tag printing service of the standard dimensions that they use before you actually design your hangtags. This assures you that when you start the design process you won’t be faced with the problem of adjusting it unnecessarily for the printer.

The next thing that you need to be aware of is the bleed. Your design must have a half inch to a one inch bleed of the design. This is to assure that when the hangtags or cut, know blank areas or cut designs appear. One of the worst things that can happen when you go about hang tag printing is to discover that a portion of your order got misaligned with their designs cut on one side, and lacking on the other. So have a design bleed so that you lessen your chances of going back to square one.

Also, don’t forget to add other marks in your designs, such as the lines for perforations or folds. Having those marks integrated in your design can help the online printer a lot in marking where they add those extra cuts and folds. You don’t want to have a wrongly placed perforation, or fold as you get your printed hangtags.

After setting the specifications of the designs, you now have to choose your printing options. Deciding on these options early helps you and the printing company quicken the whole process of ordering hangtags for printing. There are two main options that you should already have decided on.

The first is the paper. Your hang tag paper can be made of different kinds of paper stock. It can be uncoated normal paper which is the cheapest kind. It can also be the one sided, glossy coated paper stock with a shimmering front and rough back. For the most expensive kind of paper though, you can opt for the paper with glossy coatings on both sides. Depending on your budget and preference one of these things may be more appropriate.

The second option that you need to have a decision on is the printing style itself. Most printers give you several choices in hang tag printing. They can give you a full color front, with a blank back, or they can also offer you full colors on both sides. You can also opt for some black and white printing if your budget is limited.

If you have a decision on these two options, and you have set your proper specifications for hang tags, then you should already be ready to send those hang tag designs. By doing some preparations you can really save time and focus on other more important matters after your hang tag printing.
