Printing Smaller and Cheaper Catalogs

Submitted by charen

There are several good strategies out there for cheap catalog printing. You can adjust the catalog printing price by playing with the printing options. Or you can also extensively search for the best catalog printing deals over the Internet. One unique but very innovative way however for cheap catalog printing is to just print smaller catalogs. Some may call it "mini catalogs" while other marketing departments call it "light catalogs" but basically the concept is the same. Whichever the case, more and more firms are using these smaller catalogs as their ideal marketing tool for their products. Printing smaller catalogs provide several advantages financially, as well as strategically that make it a viable tactic for firms to do marketing cheaply.

Printing small but saving more:
One basic fact about printing small catalogs is that you save more money for each piece that is printed. For example, 1000 pieces of common letter sized catalogs should usually cost around 1,400 dollars. That is about 1.4 dollars per piece. If you reduce your color catalog size to only 8.5 by 5.5 inches however, you slash the cost to more than half to around 600$. That is around 60 cents a piece instead. It is basically simple math, and you should see that you already can save a lot of money when you do this.

Now, the obvious draw back here is that you will lose some space for your catalog content. Smaller catalogs mean less space. This is a minor inconvenience though. A good layout artist should easily adapt your existing catalog layout to a smaller dimension. All it takes is some text adjustments and image resizing. By only emphasizing your best products, and switching other minor products to text descriptions, you can still print your whole catalog content while using the new smaller size.

More extensive distribution with the same budget:
Smaller catalogs can also contribute to a more extensive distribution campaign. You can do this by printing larger amounts of smaller catalogs for the same printing budget as your normal catalogs. If you use the example above, we should already know that 1,400$ can more or less produce 1000 pieces of letter-sized catalogs. With the same money, you can produce around a total of 6000 pieces of the 8.5 x 5.5 kind of catalog. That is SIX TIMES the amount, meaning six times the distribution potential. If you are using your catalogs for direct mail marketing, this means that you can send to six times more addresses. If you think of the sales potential that this can produce, then smaller catalogs can really be a good investment.

Printing companies can easily do it:
Also, there is no difficulty really in printing small catalogs. Most printing companies can in fact offer small catalog printing in their standard options. If you want, you can even ask for custom sized catalogs which have different but still smaller dimensions. Most online catalog printing companies can adapt to these request easily. So there is really no trouble in trying to make them.

It should be obvious now that smaller catalogs can be the best strategy that you can use for cheap catalog printing. You can either use smaller catalogs to halve the cost of your catalog printing, or you can use the same printing budget to print larger amounts of smaller catalogs for marketing. Either way you will gain money in the process and your small catalog printing will be well worth its price.
