Small Business Success Strategy: Ways an Accountability Partner Can Work For YouSubmitted by andrewmichaels Wed, 2 Jun 2010
When you are starting a small business for yourself, there's one thing you have to learn right away - there is a very thin line between success and failure in small businesses. And more often than not, small businesses turn into failures, that's why many would succumb to the pressures of the competition in the marketplace.
As we all know, the marketplace is very competitive. Competition among businesses, whether they may be small or Fortune 500 companies, is fierce. This is the reason why many entrepreneurs are often on the lookout for new ideas and ways to make themselves stand out and have leverage over the rest of the competition. This is where having an accountability partner can work for a small business. With an accountability partner, a business owner can have the opportunity to take his or her business to the next step. An accountability partner is a person or another company that can help a business owner reach his or her goals by having someone he or she would be accountable to. In short, he or she or the company would be your partner in ensuring that you reach your designated business purpose for greater chances of achieving goals and objectives. The next question now is what do these partners do? More importantly, what can one do for the other? It is common for accountability partners to look out for each other. This means having to meet on a regular basis to thresh out each other's initiatives and objectives. What does each one wants to accomplish? Where does each one want to go with their business? Definitely during these bull sessions, each of the partners should be able to determine and map out the steps and actions that each should take for their business. A time table should be made for each partner to reach a goal that has been agreed upon by both partners. Surely a calendar printing or print calendar will come in handy for both partners. What else? Here are some more advantages of having an accountability partner. 1- As the name connotes, each partner will be accountable to the other so that they would ensure the success for each business. Both parties would be looking out for each other that there would be no excuse for any of the partners to miss out on any activity mapped out during the meeting. 2- Each partner would have to answer to the other if any one fails to accomplish a goal or two at a time agreed upon by both parties. As each would again be looking out for the other, the partner would from time to time be checking on the achievements to ensure that everything is on track and on schedule. 3- An accountability partner should not be a relative or a personal friend. I would know. I was once a product of a relationship gone dry because of a misunderstanding during the business period. Because of too many indifferences and stress, my cousin and I parted ways in not so good terms. Until now we haven't been able to patch things up. 4- Always get a partner who is objective. He or she should be unbiased. The best decisions are made when you both see the business in all angles. Best of all, an accountability partner will be one great source of motivation as he or she will help you stay focused on your goals.
