Stop Those CatalogsSubmitted by andrewmichaels Tue, 12 Jul 2011
We love the catalog mailing service because we get the direct mail catalogs that we like in the mail. We excitedly open them, waiting expectantly if our favorite item is already available or if it is on sale. Our pulse rates increase and we hyperventilate, as we know that we will burst with glee with what we will see.
But the contrary is true if you get unwanted catalogs. You are irritated and if you are already stressed, you get angry. This is especially true if you get more junk mails than your personal letters or the mailers that you requested. You sort through the day's mails from your mailbox and realize that about ¾ of it all come from companies that you are not interested in or have never even of. This happens because somehow, your mailing address is furnished to these companies by third party marketers. They are on the pry for names and mailing addresses from other sites that you sign up for. Sometimes, banks and other companies also share information of their subscribers in exchange for some of their corporate partnership deals. In the end, it is the consumer who gets irritated from getting all those unwanted mails. One thing that you can do to stop these catalogs from coming to you is to go to their website and hit "Unsubscribe." If you cannot find their unsubscribe button, look for their email address from their contact details and send them a request to cancel your subscription that you have not signed up in the first place. To make sure that they get the message, call up their toll free number and tell their agent to put a request in your name to stop sending you mailers. Tell them that you did not ask for their catalog and you are no longer interested in receiving more mailers in the future. Be nice and polite as you tell them that they are wasting their resources on you because you are not interested in what they are offering. Avoid unnecessary snide remarks because the person on the other line is just an employee in a call center. But if you are nice, they will do the extra mile for you. Thank them before you hang up. This does not usually take effect immediately. It may take about two weeks to a month before the unsubscribe request is implemented. So you can expect to get a couple more mailers in your mailbox before it is completely stopped. But after a month, you can call back again to inform them that you are still getting their mailers and would like it to stop. These two things will usually stop those unwanted direct mail catalogs from reaching you and clogging your mailbox. While the catalog mailing service has now become more efficient, they have become too efficient to the point of sending you junk mail always. But you always have the option to put a stop to this. If you think that you have exercised all free means to possibly stop the junk mail from getting to you and they are still there, just collect them all, photograph them and send a message to your local TV news network and newspaper. Attach a copy of the photo and tell them that you have accumulated so much garbage in just a short period of time because of junk mails. Make it a social concern so that everyone else will also become aware of how much garbage junk mails are causing.
