What Some People Inevitably Forget When Designing Their Custom Greeting Cards

Some people inevitably forget a lot of important things when they start their designs for greeting card printing. This is especially true when creating custom greeting cards because a lot of the basic layout settings are lost amidst the flurry of customization and building up. If you are a new designer for greeting card printing, you are probably prone to forgetting a lot of important things yourself when creating custom greeting cards. So for your benefit, let me tell you about four of the most common things people inevitably forget in greeting card printing and design.

1. Extra space for the fold - Sometimes, designers do forget that a greeting card has a fold. While this minor oversight may sound unimportant, this can have some bad effects, especially if you place greeting card design elements on or near that fold itself. You can get messages and design elements that are cut once the greeting card is folder, or you can have designs that have creases on them because they are on or near the greeting card fold.

Try to avoid this from happening by using guidelines, margins and borders on your layout. In fact, you might want to use a greeting card template so everything is set and you won't forget to stay a little bit away from the fold.

2. Extra space for printing - Another thing that some designers forget is to allow some extra space around the dimension of the custom greeting card for printing. This extra space or printing bleed is very crucial once the design is passed on for greeting card printing. That space is the vital working space that the greeting card printer has to cut and fold the greeting cards. If those printing bleeds are not present, the greeting cards will have a high risk of having cuts that look uneven. So make sure that you remember to add printing bleeds in terms of extra space dimensions. ΒΌ of an inch should be enough for greeting card printing

3. Paper materials will matter - Most designers also forget that the paper that the greeting card will be printed on will be a big factor on the look of the design. I have seen lots of amateur designers look aghast at how their wonderful designs looked bad and cheap once it was printed in medium quality paper. The designs might look impressive on screen, but once printed it didn't amount to much.

That is why it is important not to forget that the materials matter when it comes to designing for greeting card printing. You may want to precisely choose the materials you need for greeting card printing so that your designs will come out the way you want them to be.

4. Choice of inks will matter - Besides the materials another thing that designers may overlook is the ink. The choice of quality ink will matter a lot in terms of the look of the color greeting card. You might think that the standard ink should be okay, only to find out later that those inks get diluted fast when exposed to water, or they do not show the colors correctly.

Great! You now know the things that people forget about in greeting card printing. Try to remember these when you do your own custom greeting card printing.
