Affiliate Marketing and E-Commerce

Submitted by James07777

Affiliate marketing programs are a great alternative to earn an income for your websites, and an excellent introduction to e-commerce on the world wide web. The more web surfers that visit your website, the greater your chances are at creating an excellent income.

Affiliate marketing programs are set up where a merchant will offer to pay you a commission for either a click-through from your website, or if a web surfer signs up, or even a percentage of the purchase price made by web surfers as a result of being referred from your website.

Even if web surfers do not make a purchase at the same time, most programs offer cookie duration, normally between 30 and 90 days after the web surfer has left the website. All this means, is that as long as the web surfers have the cookie in their cache, you will still receive money from the sale of the product.

Searching and building affiliations with various companies take up the biggest amount of time in maintaining your websites. Even though there is a lot of money involved in affiliate marketing, take the time to search for the best affiliate programs.

The idea of other company banners littering your website is one thing that you may not be happy about but it is necessary evil. The use of too many banners, links or ads on any given web page will confuse and irritate web surfers. Only one animated element on a web page could be very distracting to a web surfer as well.

Affiliate tracking can be a problem if not set up properly. Once you have become an affiliate for a company, they will supply you with your personalized links or code segments. It is critical that you implement this code into your web page properly, or you may be sending web surfers to the companies website without receiving any profit for your website advertising.

Most snippets in the code contain a unique user ID, which the company uses to distinguish which website sent traffic.
