Cubic Zirconia RingsSubmitted by urlreader
Like with many other synthetically-made diamond look-a-likes, the synthetic cubic zirconia was first formed in the minds of scientists searching for a new and versatile material to use in lasers and other optical applications. Cubic zirconia can be found in nature, but that is incredibly rare. After many years of scientists struggling to find a crucible that could reach a temperature high enough to melt zirconia (4982 degrees Fahrenheit), Soviet scientists perfected the technique. Their breakthrough was published worldwide in 1973, and three years later in 1976 commercial production of the synthetic diamond began.
Because the stone is a lab manufactured product, cubic zirconia comes any color that is wished. It is a very shiny stone because of its high refractive index; it really does outshine all other synthetic stones. Its closeness to diamonds is shown by comparing the high refractive index of each. The diamond has a high refractive index of 2.41, and the cubic zirconia has one of 2.15. The cubic zirconia also has an 8.5 on a hardness scale of one to ten, whereas a diamond has a 10. Therefore, the cubic zirconia is a stone that is sturdy and that can be worn on a regular basis without worry of it being damaged. With all the advantages that a cubic zirconia has to offer, why go for any other stone when looking for a high-quality diamond substitute? Not only do they offer all the positives of a diamond but they are also much more affordable than a diamond. They can also be placed in rings, necklaces, bracelets and all the rest of the fashion accessories that diamonds are found in. Also like diamonds, cubic zirconias are rated on a scale of quality from one A (A) to five A (AAAAA). AAAAA is the highest quality a cubic zirconia can be, just like a diamond. Cubic zirconia cocktail rings are in fashion this season. Cocktail rings are rings with either large stones, large centerpiece stones surrounded by other smaller stones, or large clusters of stones. They were first designed in the 1940s and 1950s with diamonds being the main gem used for the rings. But now they can be found with cubic zirconia stones. Originally worn for formal events, today cocktail rings can be worn anywhere and with anything. Whether it’s at a formal party, at work, or a night out on the town, cocktail rings are meant to be worn when wanting to feel glamorous. Cubic zirconia engagement rings are also gaining in popularity. Many people are deciding to save their money for something else, like buying a home, and instead buying cubic zirconia engagement rings for their significant other. Cubic zirconia engagement rings come in all the same cuts as a diamond does. It also can be placed in gold or sterling silver settings. A great thing about a cubic zirconia is that it can come in any color that can be imagined. Therefore, cubic zirconia engagements are a smart and creative choice for anyone who wants to save money when looking for an engagement ring. About the Author
