UK students and graduates who are interested in military careers or advancing higher within a particular field should consider using officer recruitment as a career tool. The military, in its various forms, recruit talented and committed professionals to train for military careers even as they work through their university course work. This combination of course work and practical experience in the military is meant to allow UK graduates to ascend into the officer’s ranks and take over command positions in short time. This process is beneficial both to the military and the graduate involved. The UK defence structure receives a steady stream of young professionals to keep their officer ranks full while the young professional gains a variety of skills needed in the workplace.

Officer recruitment and training allow a young professional to commit for a few years to the military and then go on their way into private life. Many officers choose to continue their military careers after their mandatory service is up, though a significant number leave the service with a wealth of experience and discipline. There are a variety of skills learned through the officer recruitment process that make the time spent in the military an investment in long term professional success.

Graduates who become officers first learn the value of a disciplined and controlled mind. Those who have come through officer recruitment also learn the value of hard work and teamwork. Many graduates come out of the university setting eager to work but with little concept of the hard work needed to be truly successful. Officers serve throughout the world, waking early and resting late after a long day of guiding troops and developing solutions to complex problems. The work ethic learned in officer training and field work condenses a decade’s worth of experience into a few years, making an officer an ideal person to hire for any job vacancy.
