The largest trend in the graduate job market in the United Kingdom and Europe is to turn to recruiting agencies upon graduation instead of doing a self-directed job search. Job recruiting agencies of all sizes have existed for years but the increased contact that is now possible between recruiters and students on campus and on the Internet has meant more traffic to recruiters in order to find temporary and permanent positions. General recruiting agencies are seeing a lot of growth in their applicant pools, particularly because many graduates aren’t sure which career path they want to follow.

However, there are a good number of young professionals who know exactly what they want to do professionally. For them, the problem is finding the right job in a narrowly defined field. Chemical engineers, green architects, and design professionals, among others, have to contend with a smaller job pool to choose from than their fellow graduates. However, this problem is remedied by the growing number of specialty recruiters available in the United Kingdom and around the world.

Specialty recruiters offer professionals in a variety of fields the resources to find the perfect job for them. These recruiters often have a roster of experienced recruiters who can guide young professionals into the right position. As well, specialty firms are able to offer certifications, licenses, and other methods of demonstrating graduate aptitude before entering the workplace.

Not all specialty recruiters are built the same and graduates need to expect a few things from their recruiter before committing fully. First, a graduate needs to look at the range of services that a potential recruiter offers to its applicants. A specialty aerospace firm which does not offer security clearance services for its recruits may not be ideal for young professionals. However, a specialty engineering recruiter that offers a wide range of one-on-one coaching sessions and updated software to simulate the engineering workplace is probably ideal for an inexperienced professional.

As well, graduates need to look at the portfolio of clients that a specialty firm has before sending in their application. Companies that have a strong portfolio of clients from throughout a particular industry can bring more lucrative job offers to their recruits. As well, the brand name of a specialty firm, especially a large national or international one, can be a sign of distinction for a young professional looking to advance in their field. Specialty recruiting firms offer exceptional graduates the opportunity to enter their profession and improve quickly.
