In Costa Rica, working is a privilege that’s afforded only to citizens, permanent residents, and persons who qualify for temporary residence. That’s why government officials require that people moving to Costa Rica have a guaranteed monthly income of $600 / mo or $1,000 / mo, depending on which residency status is most applicable.

For those who are allowed to work, the job market is strong. Costa Rica’s best industries are the export of coffee, bananas, electronics and textiles and its steadily growing tourism industry. In addition to that, Costa Rica land serves as an international home base for a number of major corporations such as Intel, Conair, and Microsoft. Many of the jobs with the major corporations are professional positions and just like in other parts of the developed world, skill and experience play a part in who gets the job. While workers will always be desired in jobs related to all of the above, persons who have a strong knowledge of the global financial industry, educators of all types, as well as ecologists, botanists, geologists and the like, are also hot commodities throughout Costa Rica.

When it comes to the fastest growing job market in Costa Rica though, well that’s Costa Rica real estate. With all of the Costa Rica land development going on inland and along the coast where Costa Rica beach properties are springing up like wildflowers, those skilled in construction are truly hot commodities. Of course, with all of the Costa Rica land for sale, there’s also an increased market for those wanting work as a Costa Rica real estate agent of or real estate attorney.

The industries listed here are intended to give you an idea of what types of jobs are available for you once you move to Costa Rica. It’s by no means a complete list though. So, if you really want to get your feet wet and see what’s available in the Costa Rica job market, you need to start searching for a job. Two web sites to get you started are TicoJobs.com and JobsAbroad.com. You’ll find some good listings on either site. If you’re interested in a particular company or industry, try taking the direct route and identifying companies for which you’d like to work and then visit each company website to see who has offices in Costa Rica.
