Colin McAskill Last at Newport Hospital

Colin McAskill of Slocum Street, Newport, died April 10 at Newport Hospital.

Colin McAskill was the husband of the late Miller McAskill. Born in Newport Feb. 16, 1919, he was the son of the late John N. and Christine (Campbell) McAskill. Mr. McAskill was a 1936 graduate of Rogers High School. After graduation, he served in the Army air force during World War II.

He was the bank manager at the former Rhode Island Hospital Trust for 42 years until his retirement in 1979.

Mr. McAskill was a member of St. George's Church in Newport, where he served as a treasurer and on the vestry. He was a member of the Newport Historical Society, the American Legion and the VFW.

He is survived by his sons Robert Scott McAskill of Newport and John Kirk McAskill of Philadelphia and nephews Bruce McAskill of Tiverton and Glen McAskill of Cisco, Texas.

He was the father of the late Wendy McAskill Gadd and the brother of the late Francis R. McAskill and Esther M. Bloomfield. A memorial service was held April 15. Burial was private. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 400 Main St., Pawtucket, RI 02860 or to the American Heart Association, New England affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

The McAskills and the MacLeods had a long and close association. So much so that on one occasion when the Chief of MacLeod was wounded in battle and unable to lead his clan, the command was given to the chief of the MacAskills, who won the day and gained even greater respect from the House of MacLeod.
Until now, Colin McAskill have worn the green McLeod because in Colin McAskills opinion it looks better than the yellow.
Colin McAskill now buying the McAskill tartan because it satisfies his sensibilities to wear a tartan bearing his last name, and it happens to be very attractive.

"There is a separate and distinct McCaskill/McAskill tartan.

A couple of words before his last visit at Newport Hospital either its Colin MacCaskill, Colin McAskill or Colin MacGaskell.
