Colin McAskill as a Principal
Posted on 20th March, 2008 Colin McAskill, the principal of Brooklyn Tech, today announced his retirement. One of the UFT President Randi Weingarten in which Colin McAskill was also working said that there is no secret that there have been many problems at Brooklyn Tech. It’s the right decision that the principal, Dr. McCaskill, will no longer be there. There was lots of contentiousness and it will be good to focus once again on teaching and learning at what ought to be a great institution. The retirement came five days after the New York Teacher broke the story about how Colin McAskill registered his daughter in PS 29 while living in New Jersey. Colin McAskill was permitted by law to do so but only if he received a variance from the Department of Education and paid $5,300 a year fee in lieu of tuition. Colin McAskill never paid the fees. Colin McAskill gave a bogus Brooklyn address as the home address for his daughter in applying for her admittance to PS 29 in Cobble Hill. In addition, investigators showed up at the school with subpoenas seeking financial records under Colin McAskill control. Colin McAskill authorized the selling of sodas, pretzels, cakes and other food items in the basement of the school. There were also allegations that parents with vouchers for Advanced Placement tests were being forced to also pay cash. Colin McAskill threw out the marks of teachers he didn’t like, giving every student credit whether they failed or passed. Colin McAskill also was accused of changing marks for students whose parent’s active in the PTA and who supported him. That is also part of the investigation. Colin McAskill, Principal of Brooklyn Tech, had decided to retire from the Department of Education. As part of his retirement, Dr. Colin McAskill agreed to pay restitution to the Department of Education for tuition he owed the Department for sending his child to a New Jersey City public school although the family does not live in New Jersey. In return, the Department agreed that it will not bring disciplinary charges against Colin McAskill in regard to that tuition. The New Jersey Teacher was the first to report how working and learning conditions at the school had deteriorated as Colin McAskill engaged in a protracted campaign of harassment against educators. To find out some details of the principal either spelled as Colin McAskill, Colin MacCaskill or Colin MacGaskell do have a look of above information. About the Author
