The History of the Blackberry HandsetSubmitted by dianeforster Tue, 4 May 2010
Designed and produced by Canadian company Research In Motion (RIM) the Blackberry was first introduced in 1998. Nothing like the Blackberry handsets that grace the pockets of businessmen today, the pager like device integrated enterprise email into a device that was ahead of its time. The popularity of the Blackberry 850 was somewhat lacking due the needs of most consumers not reaching a level that required the technical capabilities of the Blackberry handset.
Not to be defeated RIM went back to the drawing board and progressed significantly with their next release. The Blackberry 857 and 957 changed shape to appear more like the Blackberry mobiles we see today. This latest Blackberry mobile scrapped the archaic AA battery supply in favour for a rechargeable lithium battery. The built in memory and the screen size of the device notably increased and the Blackberry mobile soon became one of the largest selling business mobiles. RIM continued to tweak their Blackberry handsets and develop their features which further cemented their position in the market place. Blackberry love to express their aesthetic prowess and technical capabilities in the handset and the latest Blackberry models are fantastic examples of this. The Blackberry Curve is one of RIM's most famous creations, facing immense competition the all singing all dancing business Blackberry allows users to check email quickly and easily whilst on the move and incorporates key software such as GPS to improve the way that business is conducted. The Blackberry Curve comes in a number of models, the latest of which is the Blackberry Curve 8900 which is fast becoming the benchmark of business phones. RIM has also given life to a smaller and appealing handset, The Blackberry Pearl is a smartphone with a wide list of features all packaged neatly in this punchy handset. The Blackberry pearl is one of the older Blackberry handsets that RIM have tweaked and brought into the marketplace. When you think of a business mobile most people will automatically think of a Blackberry, RIM invented first real business handset and no rival has ever really taken its place.
