Courier Companies vs Haulage Companies. What is the difference?

Submitted by marksheldon

Many businesses deal with Courier Companies or the postal service everyday to deliver goods and orders to their customers. What people don't always understand is the difference between a courier company and a haulage company. This article is written to help you understand the differences.

A courier company will generally deliver smaller items and is an alternative service to the general post office. This means that Couriers are ideal for customers such as solicitors and mail order companies. Items that couriers can deliver are time sensitive documents, small parcels or maybe even, in some cases, some larger specialist consignments. Couriers can deliver across the world through international services and use a combination of road, sea and air travel to do so. Couriers can deliver both urgent and non-urgent items.

A haulage company will take distribution to the next level.

Haulage companies operate with fleets, both small and large, of articulated units with up to 28 tonnes of carrying capacity. This means that haulage companies are fully geared up to distribute pallets of stock weighing many tonnes. This makes haulage companies ideal for industries such as manufacturing or retail wholesaling as they can transport pallets of products in one cost effective trip. As with Couriers, haulage companies can distribute consignments throughout the UK, Europe and the World.

Some Haulage companies have their own rail transport, where as some even have their own airlines.
Many Haulage and Courier companies are family owned which generally means that you know you are going to get a good service from those with a good reputation.

Swindon Haulage company, Broadleaze, have been established for over 25 years providing general haulage, UK Pallet Distribution, Warehousing and Pick and Pack services.
