Restaurant table settings, what defines a restaurant!

Submitted by pankaj snv

Restaurant table setting is one aspect of the interior design of a restaurant that customers experience up close and personally. Although it is often said that quality is quiet - it certainly speaks volumes about a restaurant. Predominantly, there are two types of restaurant table setting patterns, Al a Carte and Table d'hôte. The former is a simple layout while the latter is much more elegant and reserved for the special occasions. All of us have been to restaurants where we can tell that the situation is desperate, the moment we step into the place. Servers as well as their supervisors, even the owners of the place cannot properly lay even a simple restaurant table setting especially if they are asked to set anything more complicated than a knife & fork and even those settings are set haphazardly and without precision. Such a restaurant table setting really spoils your lovely mood and ultimately means loss for the restaurant.

All the stakeholders in a restaurant need to know urgently that doing a restaurant table setting is about being clever, not cash flow. Customizing the dining space does not mean a complete and wasteful make over for the restaurant's décor. It is more about enhancing your guests' experience and encouraging, by design, fraternization with their dinner partners on both sides. Even a good quality glass dinner set can do this perfectly well.

Proper table settings can be a daunting task. Every different setting, from breakfast to dinner to formal occasions needs different types of flatware, dinnerware, and glass dinner sets. One must understand that it is not just about abiding by the traditional rules of restaurant table setting. If done properly, table settings will help you maximize your investment by matching your daily usage and the types of specialty pieces to what a restaurant has on its menu. The owners of the restaurant will do well to remember that good restaurant table setting creates the proper atmosphere and ambience for each meal, and helps to compliment a fine menu and décor.

Glass dinner sets greatly increase the feel and the mood if they are set properly in a classy restaurant. Today, glass is increasingly becoming the material of choice in restaurant table settings. The servers should keep all the tableware, especially items of the glass dinner set, approximately one inch from the edge of the table. All knives must be placed with their cutting edge towards the plate. All the flatware must be arranged in order of use, working from the outside toward the plate for each course served. If salad is served after entree, salad fork must be placed next to the plate. A seafood/cocktail fork is always placed to the right of the soup spoon, unless served with a seafood cocktail. In that case, it may be placed on the cocktail plate.
