Die blanking is the process of cutting into metal sheets with the aid of a die or a pressing tool. A blank is then shaped out of the cut to be used for a particular purpose. Now, with the concept of die blanking evolved a process popularly known as fine blanking. There are several facts involved in this process and advantages are guaranteed as well. Learn more about the fine blanking concept.

Fine die blanking materials

The fine die blanking is a special form of the blanking process. It makes use of a system where the output is not assured of any fracture even if it has to be sheared or cut off. The whole part is compressed before the upper and lower parts do their respective works. With this, there is no more need to institute a second process. The different materials involved in fine blanking are alloys, carbon, copper, stainless steels brass and aluminum.

Fine die blanking process

Additional parts are needed to complete the fine blanking process aside from those used in conventional metal stamping processes. Included in the list are the male hardened die punch, the female hardened blanking die, and a guide plate where the die blank will be patterned. The following steps are crucially followed in the process.

The guide plate is applied to the material.

It is impinged with the use of a sharp protrusion around the perimeter surrounding the stamping tool.

A pressure opposite to the punch will then be applied.

The die and the punch will then force the material to come out of the opening of the pressing or stamping tool.

The die blanking process is considered more of an extrusion than the typical way of punching. Because of this, the desire to maintain the flatness of the material as well as straight finished edges is obtained. This further eliminates machine dependence.
