Earning Money by Working at Home

Submitted by schoolhea

Working from home is something many people daydream about. The thought of being able to work in your pajamas, in the comfort of your own home, without having to answer to a boss is very appealing. Unfortunately, there are many scams out there targeting people who want to work at home. Avoid scouring classifieds for work-at-home jobs, because most of them are not legitimate. Instead, search for real work-at-home options that can bring you substantial income such as fundraising. Fundraising is a highly coveted work-at-home job that allows you to earn money, while helping organizations you care about.

The Duties of a Work-at-Home Fundraiser

The job of fundraisers is to convince people to contribute money. The number of organizations and entities that require funds is practically limitless, but the number of people who are willing to donate money to fundraising efforts is often times much smaller. The duties of a fundraiser include developing and implementing fundraising campaigns, organizing events, sending out direct mail, making presentations, and much more.

The benefits of running a fundraising business from home include the fact that you are your own boss, you don't have a set schedule, you get to stay home with your kids, and you get to work out of the comfort of your own home. Once you get a taste of the work-at-home lifestyle, it's hard to return to a 9-5 job. Fundraising as a work-at-home job is especially fulfilling because you get to work with organizations, schools, and churches you respect. Essentially, you get to make money through helping people.

The Skills a Fundraiser Must Possess

Not everyone is fit to be a fundraiser. You must have an aptitude for sales and excellent communication skills in order to connect with people and convince them to donate. You also need to be well-organized in order to keep track of donations and campaigns. In addition, a professional fundraiser must be a good manager. Even though you'll be working out of your home office, you may to need to recruit and train other people to assist you in your fundraising campaigns.

Fundraising Ideas for Work-at-Home Fundraising Professionals

One of the most common ways to raise funds is through door-to-door selling. Work-at-home fundraisers may recruit and train people to go door-to-door and sell fundraising items such as candles, kitchen supplies, or food items. Professional fundraisers must understand which fundraising items would be most successful for a particular campaign and how to sell those items effectively. Sometimes, the right timing is all that matters. For example, selling cookie dough around the time that the girl scouts are going door-to-door selling cookies could result in fundraising failure. Make sure you are selling a product that no one else is selling by keeping tabs on other fundraising campaigns that are taking place around the same time.

As a professional fundraiser, you can choose to establish your own fundraising business or you can work in coordination with a fundraising organization. The latter option is easier because you receive all of the promotional and tracking tools you need to succeed in your efforts. For example, some fundraising companies out there would require fundraisers to sell advertising space to local businesses on the websites of nonprofit organizations and schools. The fundraiser then receives commissions on all of the advertising sold.

Whether you want to accumulate your own clients or work with an established fundraising organization, there are numerous ways to get started as a work-at-home fundraiser. Fundraising is a legitimate work-at-home opportunity that allows you to earn money while making a difference in people's lives.
