Get the Ball Rolling with a New Business IdeaSubmitted by prominent Fri, 4 Jan 2008
Many people have great small business ideas, but only a handful will actually make the commitment and do something about it. These people are often referred to as Entrepreneurs.
Careful planning is required when starting a new business idea. Without some kind of business plan or business structure, cracks will almost certainly appear in the early stages, and ultimately end what could have been a successful business idea. The most common mistake entrepreneurs make when starting out in a new business venture is over spending. Unnecessary spending and over capitalizing before a profit is made will lead you to dept. Limit your outgoing expenses until you start making regular profits. Only then will you be able to accurately estimate how much you should be putting back into the business. When starting a new business, always remember to only invest what you can afford to lose. This might sound silly, but when you think about it, it actually makes sense. You have to remain positive throughout the process, but more importantly you have to be realistic. Never put personal assets up for collateral. Over the years I have seen many families lose everything they own due to a business venture that failed. Literally lost every asset they owned. If you can not start a new business idea without putting up your home or personal assets, then I would advise not to proceed. There are many different alternatives that do not involve putting your personal assets on the line, such as business loans, cash injections from investors etc. Starting a business with zero funds is also known as 'Bootstrapping' and does require creative thinking, flexibility and a good knowledge of your product or service. For any new business it is beneficial to develop a website as an extra arm of advertising and reach a world wide audience. Implementing some basic keywords that are relevant to your niche will see the search engines rank your website and direct customers to your business website. It can be quite inexpensive to develop and set up a basic website. Making sure you include and easy to read and interesting description about what your business has to offer will be beneficial. Websites that are easy to navigate will keep customers on your site longer, and ultimately converting to a sale. Including some free information where a user can simply enter their name and email to receive the information will work wonders as people love anything that is being offered for free. This will lead to my next suggestion, which is an email marketing campaign. Once you develop a nice member list, you can create a very catchy sales pitch email promoting your product or service. Seeing as though the user has already entered their email to receive FREE information from your website, the chances are they will be interested in what you have to offer, hopefully leading to a sale. Before pouring all of your resources into an advertising campaign, you should research who your target audience is, to prevent spending time and money on advertising campaign that will be targeting an audience who is definitely not interested in your product or service. Your time and money would be obviously better spent targeting an audience who might be interested in your product or service. Making smart business marketing decisions at the start of any new business venture will give you the best head start you can ask for. About the Author
