Getting green with Stefani Newman

Here are some of what I think are the best of the best in environmental awareness and action groups. They all send free newsletters to help even the busiest mom keep walking the eco-walk!

Healthy Child Healthy World is a non-profit organization dedicated to "inspiring parents to protect young children from harmful chemicals". Founded by a couple who lost their child to a non-hereditary cancer, HCHW has grown to be one of the largest environmental awareness groups in the world. They partner with an amazing array of nutrition, health, non-profit, research, medical and environmental groups Sign up for the "Healthy Child Times" newsletter for the latest news about eco/child issues!

I love Big Green Purse because it's totally women friendly! Founder Diane MacEachern is a green business guru who really wants you to put your money where the green is. Aside from practical eco-tips, Big Green Purse offers a unique way woman can help use the "power of their purse"! BGP is encouraging a million women to shift at least $1,000 of money they already spend (not in addition to) towards a one billion dollar BGP impact. Considering the state of the economy right now, I'd say shifting money towards better products and services is a smart and effective way to go green. Sign up for "Purse Alerts" to get your green ON!

The latest peanut butter recalls have pretty much freaked out anyone who has ever fed their children a PBJ sandwich! More than ever, it's important to keep closer tabs on the food we bring into our homes, as well as what's being given to kids at school. Since 2005, Food and Water Watch has been fighting to protect farms, water sources, importing food issues, and much more. Did you know they've gotten Starbucks to stop using milk with added hormones in 51% of their stores? Me neither! Food and Water Watch has a newsletter is incredibly informative, and sends you right to petitions and

Finally, whether you have kids with allergies, diabetes, obesity or just need to brush up on the latest food trends, the website Smart Foods Healthy Kids is a great community to join. Started by Kelly Corbet (she calls herself the CEO/Chief of Belief), an environmental policy Harvard-educated mom of two (one with food allergies), the SFHK team is a group of passionate, health-minded people with the littlest eaters in mind. What I really look forward to is their free weekly enewsletter, highlighting a healthy tidbit for you and your kids. Information such as the organic “dirty dozen” and “cleanest 12" foods will help save your wallet - and help you build a healthier kitchen.

A native New Yorker, Stefani started teensygreen in July of 2007 while living in the beautiful country of Panama, where she lived by the Pacific Ocean for the first time. Stef now resides in South Florida with her wonderful husband and two beautiful, talented, curious, life-loving daughters, who help her with obsessive shell collecting, messy cooking, and library adventures.

With teensygreen and through WorkingMomLifeline.com, Stefani hopes to help like-minded parents make economical, educational, and safe eco-choices for their families!
