How Business are Using Digital Picture Frames

Submitted by hokieglenn

If you look back at the rapid growth in popularity of digital flat-screen televisions, it's interesting to see their evolution from the home to the business world. Consumers obviously loved the clearer, larger pictures, and the space advantages of a flat-screen LCD TV that could be hung virtually anywhere on a wall. As the technology got better and cheaper, traditional CRT TVs quickly became outdated and flat-screens are now the norm.

This evolution also had an interesting history outside of the home. LCD screens became cheap enough that businesses suddenly realized they could put them to use in all kinds of creative ways. Go into any corporate lobby or reception area and you will likely see an LCD television with company welcome information or other content, or maybe just live television. Executives who work in finance, media, and other industries that change with the news now have flat-screens in their office. At the other end of the spectrum, go in a food court in a shopping mall, and many establishments now display their menus on low cost flat-screens instead of traditional signage. Flat-screens get used in lots of other ways in the business world.

Digital picture frames in essence are small, inexpensive version of flat-screen TVs. Most people use them for pictures (slideshows), but they can also display video or stream information such as news or weather via RSS-type feeds. Business are similarly finding ways to use these smaller LCD display devices in all kinds of ways to compliment larger LCD TVs, and this trend is likely to continue.

What is nice about digital picture frames is that their size allows you to put them on a desk top and easily move them from desk to desk or room to room. Thus businesses are now putting them on reception desks or conference room tables with pertinent information. You may now see welcome information on a small digital picture frame on a receptionist desk. Marketing material or ads can now be developed into a simple slide show and streamed on a digital picture frame that is displayed anywhere a business has traffic. Building lobby's, restaurant hostess areas, waiting areas, or anywhere you want to get information out about your business, but don't want a "static" sign make great applications for a digital picture frame. They are easily hung on walls as well.

Businesses use them for internal purposes as well. Scheduling conference rooms can be done with a digital frame in each room that has the day's agenda. Break rooms can have announcements or company information for employees. Training material such as diagrams, charts, or short videos that only need a small screens are great for digital photo frames as well.

So look for digital picture frames to play an increased role not only in the home and office, but a role in businesses as well.
