How to Find the Most Ideal Medical Imaging Parts VendorSubmitted by echo_promotions Wed, 20 Feb 2008
If you are employed as a biomedical engineering technician, you might be in charge of tracking down and purchasing medical imaging parts for the biomedical equipment that you maintain. As you already know, there is a multitude of distributors of medical imaging parts available for you to choose between. The question is, how do you choose a medical imaging parts supplier?
Inventory Most importantly, whatever medical imaging parts supplier you choose to work with must carry replacement parts for the equipment you maintain. Most distributors have on-line inventories that can help you figure out which suppliers meet your medical imaging parts needs. Cost Cost isn't a straightforward issue. If you hunt for the lowest price tag, you may end up with low quality equipment. On the other hand, you definitely don't want to have your budget suffer by paying premium prices if it's not necessary. There are two things you ought to consider. First, is the medical imaging part inherently complex so that you should apply a "get what you pay for" principle and buy premium? Or, is the part fairly simple so that the "plain vanilla" low cost type will be sufficient? Second, if the total amount of money you'll need to spend is sizable enough to justify the effort, look at all the prices out in the marketplace. If there is a general range, you will probably be paying just about the same price everywhere, so go ahead and buy the part based on other criteria. If there are substantial highs and lows in the price range, you should figure out why these differences exist. For example, is the low priced supplier able to keep his overhead so low that everything is a bargain? Or is he selling a cheap product? Warranty What type of warranty does the supplier offer? If parts are refurbished, who is refurbishing? Is there proper quality control? Return/Exchange policy What is their policy for returning a medical imaging part that has been incorrectly ordered? Is there a time limit? Can you get your money back or is it exchange only? Shipping Shipping and handling fees are sometimes the veiled high cost element of the purchase price. Make sure you understand all S&H fees upfront. Furthermore, can the company guarantee that you will have the option of getting the parts shipped overnight? Customer service Will the company help you to work out any problems, whatever they may be? Is their customer service available all day every day? Are there BMETs on hand to assist you in troubleshooting medical imaging parts problems if necessary? Use this checklist to evaluate vendors. Select two or three vendors that are reliable. Don't depend exclusively on one vendor for all your needs; don't forget the "all my eggs in one basket" rule. NOTE: Use of this article requires links to be intact. About the Author
