How to Sell Expensive Items on eBay

Submitted by James07777

On eBay, selling expensive items are no different from selling less expensive items, and it all comes down to the marketing of the products. You do not have market the products all over the Internet by placing ads for the items, eBay auctions does the marketing for you through their website. Once you set up an eBay auction, you have an automated marketing campaign in place.

One of the first things you must do is determine what the price of your item will be, and that can be done in different ways. This determines reserve price of the item, and on eBay, the reserve price is the lowest price that you are going to take for this item. First, determine the actual market value by have your item evaluated. This is done by doing research on similar items from past auctions at eBay, and see what price those items sold for. Finally, determine what the value of the item is to you, and with all this information, you can determine the lowest price you are willing to sell the item for on eBay.

A marketing strategy or tactic is to set your reserve price, and then set your opening bid price lower than $60, no matter how high your reserve price will be. An eBay auction which has items selling for hundreds or even thousands of dollars is hard to attract potential buyers. But, getting the buyers to an eBay auction where the opening bid is only $60 is a lot easier. Remember, bids lower than your reserve price is a non bid and you do not have to sell the item to them, unless you choose to do so at the end of the eBay auction. This marketing strategy or tactic of pricing, resembles marketing gimmicks used by offline businesses that were designed to ‘get customers in the door.’

Work really hard on the descriptions of your listing, and inject words and phrases that really describe your item well. Provide as many details as possible to punch up the value, including details, if they are collectible items to prove the authenticity of the items.
Include high quality pictures of the item, but do not try to deceive potential buyers! If the item contains flaws like marks or scratches, be honest, and make sure that the pictures convey the imperfections. Let potential buyers know how the item will be packed and shipped, and that shipping insurance must be purchased in case the item is damaged once it leaves your possession.

A lot of eBay buyers feel more comfortable and secure using an escrow service for high priced items. You can offer this escrow service as an option in your auctions, but make sure that the buyer understands that they must pay for the service. The service makes the buyers more willing to spend the money to obtain the item, and also protects both parties from fraud. This service is commonly used for high ticket items, and eBay has partnered with an escrow service for that purpose.
