Lies Will Always Catch Up With You

Submitted by jsolochek

When you tell a lie it always comes back and bites you.. 99 % of all jobs you apply for will do a background check on you. The only way this will really ever hurt you is if you have a background of a lot of thefts then chances are you will not get a job that requires you to handle money. But if you had a felony drug charge from ten years ago the only thing a new employer might then require you to do is to get a drug screening.

Now if this felony drug charge only happened a year ago then this might prevent you from getting a job now but for 10 years ago I cannot see how this can hurt your chances of getting a job now. I recently applied at a temp agency for some work and when I lived in Georgia nothing showed up when a background check was done. A couple of months ago I made a move to Florida and I forgot that things would show up. If I had just been honest on all my applications for employment then I would have gotten this temp job. I figured, in Georgia, if nothing was going to show up then why mark down that I had a past felony on job applications. Employers just want to know if they hire you that you are an honest person.

I brought my kids up with the understanding that if they did something wrong and then lied about it the punishment would be a lot worse than had they just admitted to what they had done wrong in the first place. Bold lies always come back and haunt you. I have always been very good at catching people when they are lying to me. This does not mean that all lies are bad. If you have an ugly wife and always tell her the truth then this could be dangerous to you. When you first see her in the morning do not say "Good Morning Ugly". Instead use a white lie "Good Morning Sexy".

With the latter comment you will have a lot more peace on the homefront. Lying, in general, should not be something you practice. Again this refers to bold lies. The same applies whenever you make a promise to another person. Always keep that promise. If you don't at least let the person know as to why you cannot keep the promise. Do not hide from that person.

My wife, in the past, would borrow money from my mom when I was away. She would always promise to pay it back in a week or less but after the week had gone by no only did she not keep her word but she was calling to borrow more money. It would have been nice and proper had she at least tried to pay my mom something instead of just nothing. This same applies to whatever you promise. If you are not able to keep the promise then at least let the person know. If your promise somehow involved money then try to do something rather than not to do anything at all.

The stuff above entails being respectful of other people and living with integrity. These things should be common practice that everybody follows. Unfortunately in life this is not the case. Your word should be something that others can depend on.
