Ludhiana SMEs to benefit from air connectivity

Submitted by davidpar

Commencement of flights from Ludhiana starting this month has come as good news for not only air travellers in the city but also the city's industrial segments, including the SME sector.

"With Ludhiana being on the air map, industrial, trading as well as commercial activities in the region will certainly receive a tremendous fillip. Air connectivity will make it easier for small businesses to carry out their trade dealings and transactions smoothly without worrying about the transportation hassles," said Subhas Chandra Ralhan, regional chairman of the Engineering Export Promotion Council India (EEPCIndia).

Earlier, the chief industrial sectors in Ludhiana such as textile, hosiery, sewing machines, machine and hand tools and bicycle had to rely either on Delhi airport or Chandigarh airport for travel or shipment purposes in the absence of air connectivity. However, with the city now set to be on the air radar, the region's SME sector is also set to witness increased traffic of goods in the days ahead.

"Air connectivity from Ludhiana will facilitate greater and easy movement of goods and passengers to and from the city. It will also provide easier access to Ludhiana for overseas buyers, thereby stepping up export activities and steadily improving order books of SME exporters in Ludhiana," said Jeetal Oswal, agent of Oodhni Textiles, a small-sized textile mill in Ludhiana.

Besides benefiting the traders in Ludhiana, small businesses in Jalandhar, Phagwara, Hoshiarpur and nearby areas as well as the NRI community, who had to largely depend on Delhi and Chandigarh airports, would stand to gain from the new aviation destination in Ludhiana.
