Inflation and your employerSubmitted by poly Wed, 21 Jan 2009
Money has never been so crucially needed for survival as it is at the beginning of this year; 2009, world over because of inflated cost of living.
I was wondering about the fate of some of us who earn just a small salary that cost us a whole day in our employer’s premises thus we cannot find some other ways to earn extra money. It must be true that many workers expected a pay rise so that they could cover that part of their usual monthly budget that has been altered, but how many employers are willing to do this? The cost of running their business is also increased and they cannot afford to do something stupid so as to cause failure any time soon. The job market as ever cannot contain the massive numbers of skilled, experienced and talented workforce, which is why those who are already attached in some company cannot decide to quit so bravely. How can we even dream of smelling at least the edge of paradise of the riches, if our employers demand all of our time, which is basically money? It is such times as these of inflation that many of them exploit workers to ensure their companies survive but they do not care how these unfailing workers meet their extra cost of living. See, it is the survival for the fittest and since inflation is an economic tragedy that individuals cannot change, then it is better to confront your employer for a pay rise or flexibility in working hours. If employers cannot raise their employee’s income in such conditions as these, then they should not take away all their time as well, for what they call “overtime”. This is how some con workers because if for instance it is a manufacturing company where the number of units produced is a measure of productivity and pay for working extra hours, it becomes easy to interchange these with faulty ones. In their conscience, such workers believe their overtime performance was great, but wait until the time for pay comes. Invented stories about too many faulty units will justify reasons for not paying them the agreed pay. Would it not be better for such workers to get home early and prepare for the next job or business that would bring clean cash? Whatever additional task people should engage in to earn the extra dollar does not matter as long it is genuinely acquired. Such times as these of crazy inflation rates, appearing like just a fool, low class or small does not count either because life is not stopping. Now is the right time to be assertive about your employment rights as a worker because if not, no one cares if last night you slept hungry, lacked money for mortgage or to pay the children’s school fees. Money has made the world of today that of “ why should I care about others anyway”. The concern is how much money one can make in no time, the strategy not withstanding, even if it is committing crimes or using others who do not know their rights. Earning an extra dollar also has become as difficult as chasing the wind that none can ever catch, so the little you grab, spend it wisely to survival the current cost of inflation.
