Want to get a salary raise? Try this

Submitted by poly

It is very easy for employees to discuss amongst themselves how their salaries should be appraised upwards to match the current cost of life, than it is to request their bosses personally to do it.

It is not only through informal groups that they are able to air their grievances, but time and time again, we have witnessed employees demonstrating on the streets for pay hikes, around the planet.

As a result, I want you to evaluate my thoughts after reading how I think you as an employee can approach your employer and request for a salary raise or allow some allowances, in relation to your specific needs.

It is not wrong to feel that your skills, experience or knowledge have already developed beyond what your company is giving back to you.

Because of the change especially, the current position you are now may be demanding extras of your time, mental or physical efforts, than before.

Individual workers would have distinct reasons for needing a pay rise and whatever they are; many of them get cold feet in the step of implementing the move.

There is fear that when you get to his or her office and asked to have a sit and speak up, the next things you notice is that you lack the words to express your situation.

And your boss will be like “ well, tell me something I do not know of yet”. In other words, picking inflation to be the reason why you need to have your salary shift upwards may be absurd to him.

He will also tell you that he is a citizen too and has noticed how the same has affected his usual budget and ask you to get back to work or even resign.

Is there a correct procedure to get things done to your favor?

There may not be a set formula for individual employees to get pay rise to their advantage, but how about trying that performance appraisal report they are both familiar with?

Your employer should not only note on that report that you are incredibly productive in your work, he or she should do something to motivate you to continue in the same spirit.

Also, you can both review your job following the procedure set by the company in question and at the middle of this, you can now surprise your boss with the need to be considered for salary increment if your performance is untarnished.

It is never easier to convince your employer without tangible evidence that should form part of your preparation to meet him or her.

Collect all the documents containing the information you may need to argue your case well.

Arrange for an appointment with your boss to have an oral interview, but if you are short tempered, find a solution to calm your nerves down till he or she pledges to increase your earnings.

Citing inflated cost of living again would require you to demonstrate how your last pay hike has been affected by the current situation and how a particular rate of increase would make your spending manageable.

If it is about your job tasks that you feel have inevitably shifted up and you feel your boss is not aware or know about it but chose to be ignorant, you must be able to demonstrate this to deserve salary increment.
