Very few things could be more important for a business leader to understand than what it means to be true to oneself. However, in order to master this vital skill you must delve into the word itself.
One technique that can help us understand this word "true" is by examining its opposite. The opposite of true is false. From this we gather that in order to be true to ourselves we must bring to a close the days when we were false. But what does it mean for a person to be false? This question is easily answered through taking a glance at a couple of the synonyms of "false" which are: phony, counterfeit, pretended, misleading, deceitful, etc. Basically, to be false is to deceive, or to live a lie. The foundation of truth is authenticity and loyalty. To be authentic/true to yourself builds personal integrity in the eyes of others. It is not difficult to follow a leader who's totally authentic and truthful. As a leader your employees look to you for direction. You are the one who creates that path that your employees will follow. Helping your employees increase their confidence in you should be near the top of your priorities. This is achievable when you begin proving your authenticity. Have you ever stopped to notice how much you appreciate being with frank and honest people? People that are genuine allow you feel comfortable and confident. Eliciting the feeling of security and comfort in those around you is vital for creating sustainable business endeavors and developing lasting strategic partnerships. Being true denotes consistency and this creates trust. This week, practice the things you've learned here by being true and avoiding being false. Make your words truth.
