To be a business leader that acts bipolar is not a good thing. Now I've had some friends that have been diagnosed bipolar and I'll be the first one to confess that we tend to use this word loosely.

If you become high-spirited quickly and then just as rapidly become low and miserable, you are likely to be described as bipolar. A true leader is controlled-you neither under nor over react.

9/11/01- President George W. Bush learned that the United States was under attack by an unknown enemy during a trip to an Elementary School. There are those who fault him, because he continued on with his appointment showing no emotion.

In reality, this was a brilliant display of control by President Bush. Can you imagine the President of the free world jumping from his chair in alarm and rushing out of the Elementary School, leaving behind a crowd of frightened and confused children? The terrorists would have ate that up!

The way we act sometimes reveals feelings of irritation, exuberance, and distress. All of these displays of emotion are reactions and shows a deficiency in leadership Control and may show your weakness and make those around you question whether or not you should be their leader.

If you are not sure how to react to certain situations, decide to react later after you have had time to think about it and decide how you should react.

Then again, you don't want to seem to not have any urgency or concern at all if a circumstance is bad. Stay relaxed and do your best to take care of the situation. If you lead, you want to think clearly at all times, so those that follow you have a confidence in you.
