Businesses need to employ a very definite strategy to get and keep customers, especially when customers are looking for the best deal or the lowest cost. Make sure your product or the service that your company has to offer is worthwhile. Employ some customer acquisition techniques in order to get those hard to reach customers. With small business loans and small business lending at a low, these techniques may be even more essential for those small business owners trying to stay afloat.

Search Engine Marketing

First off, are you online? Make sure people can find you. Search Engine Marketing allows you to get better customers through a lot of different methods. This may include link maximization, keyword search, press release optimization or pay-per-click. Search engine advertising is also a way to get your name up on the search list. Specialized companies can help you with this marketing method.

Email Marketing

Create an email campaign that will reach out to people in unique and creative ways. Maybe this includes a compelling message, event or goal or includes a coupon or other bonus for subscribers. Let it be a way for you to reach out to people.

Interactivity

Create events or promotions that get people involved. Utilize facebook to get people clicking on your site in order to get a coupon or send a friend something. Create a contest that gets people excited or a sweepstakes that might peak interest. Make sure that you are always delivering your message and utilize the creative idea to get people in the door and then keep them there. Display to them that you are there to do business and you want them to be your customers for the long haul.

Referrals

Ask for referrals and give a bonus for those that you get from existing customers. Utilize happy people to spread the word. Maybe you want to create a campaign based on those good news stories in order to share and show how good of a product or service you are already offering to these people. What good things do they have to say about the way you do business? Ask them. They will want to share.

Events

Hold an event. Get people involved. Support a charity that rallies support. Do something that gets people excited and involved. Make sure they understand what you are all about and what your business has to offer them. Don't do something boring - if you do an event it should peak people's interest, be unique and out of the ordinary. With an event management company you can pull these things off successfully. Whether it is a dinner or a workshop you offer to the community, you can make an event work for you.

There are so many ways that businesses can reach out to customers. Stop simply sending out those direct mail pieces that may work for some but clog up the mailboxes for others. Reach out to people in a way that communicates your business mission while selling them on your product. Get those customers and keep them.
