Design Effective Trade Show DisplaysSubmitted by trade-show-steve Tue, 7 Apr 2009
If you ask me, creating effective designs for trade show displays should not require an MBA or PhD. In actuality, it is basically common sense. Unfortunately, the fact that it is common sense doesn't mean effective trade show displays are all that "common". Judging by many of the trade show designs I've seen, it seems that more often than not, trade show exhibitors miss the mark and don't have a clear message. But by reading and learning from this article, and by following these simple points, you'll have the "uncommon" knowledge to design and effective and compelling trade show display that will stop potential prospects so you can talk to them and turn them into customers. Creating an effective design is a simple matter of focusing on the following three points.
First, your booth has catch people's attention when they are passing by your booth space. Consider your booth to be just one little tree in a forest (of many, many trees). So job number one is to have a attention-grabbing booth design. You don't want people to just walk by your booth. One time-tested way of "getting noticed" is to have a catchy tagline with a captivating background image. Second, you must clearly say who your are, and you must explain what you do. Your company name needs to be at the top in a large, easy-to-read font. You must also explain what your company actually does. Test your design by having a friend look at it for a few seconds and then have them tell you who you are and what you do. Third, you need to explain to people "what's in it for them." This is a critical part of having an effective design. People will stop and talk if you can clearly explain how you can make their lives easier. For example, if you are a marketing firm, you might say how many new customers you can get them. No matter what, you must tell people how you will help them. In the end, it comes down to this. Designing effective trade show displays means creating a design that does the three things above. You need a design that stands out. Of course, your design has to have your company name and a statement of what you do. And most important, you need to list the benefits your offer (how you can help people). If you want to be successful at trade show marketing, you must insure your trade show display design does these three things. Good luck with your next trade show!
