Injecting Energy Into Your Sales Presentation

Submitted by yojspew

When I was in college, and some of you may be able to relate to this, I always struggled with falling asleep during lectures. Maybe I just didn’t have the attention span required or it could have been something else entirely. I tried a few things, to no avail. Even coffee couldn’t keep me from dozing off in class. The one exception was in my math class. Whenever my professor was giving a lecture, he’d stop somewhere in the middle and tell a quick, random story. It didn’t have anything to do with the subject, but it was a great way to wake everybody up. No one wanted to miss the great stories, including me.
Now, how can this tie into copy editing? Well, some of the best sales are those that tell a story. For example; if you sell golf products, a great story to tell is “The One Legged Golfer.” This story talks about how every golfer’s dream is to hit a long, beautiful drive while all his buddies are watching. But this one guy is really struggling with his swing. He tries everything he can, but it’s just not working for him; until he hears about “The One Legged Golfer.” It’s a very compelling and inspirational story and it helps him figure out the secret to the perfect drive. This story is one that any golfer would be able to relate to.

So in your next sales letter, think up a great story to share. It can be about you or someone you know. It could even be one you just came across online. Whatever it is, make it relatable, and you will get a great response.
