Masonry, stone setting or stone works can be valuable elements of any outdoor design. Masonry work involves the setting of cement blocks, bricks, chimney construction, marble and stone on mortar for both functional and decorative purposes. Masonry has gone a long way since the early century techniques of building rough -cut brick and raw stone. Today, masons are using advances in digital technology to cut and polish stone. Below are common examples of masonry and stone use.

Veneer masonry - Veneer masonry is a non-structural wall composed of a single layer of functional or decorative masonry work typically made of brick over a pocket of air space. The inner wall is typically structural and can consist of wood, metal framing or masonry as well. The pocket of air space acts a drainage mechanism that drains water to the bottom of the cavity and diverts water out into the veneer wall's weep holes. Masonry veneers can be made of any concrete, manufactured clay, artificial stone or natural stone product. This cavity can include insulation in the form of rigid foam. Veneer masonry only relies on the foundation on which it is attached. Veneer walls are usually attached to the structural frame of a building by brick ties or corrugated metal straps nailed or screwed to the structural frame. Masonry veneers can be made of any concrete, manufactured clay, artificial stone or natural stone product.

Solid masonry - Solid masonry walls are load-bearing walls used for building. They are also used for retaining walls and monuments. The most common material used for solid masonry is concrete hollow block. Other materials used for masonry include brick, stone, marble, granite, travertine, limestone, glass block, and tile. Concrete hollow blocks are secured by filling the hollow core with concrete and reinforced with steel rebar.

Brick masonry - Brick masonry is constructed with two layers of brick. The bricks are arranged together with interlocking horizontal "stretcher" bricks and transverse to the wall, "header" bricks to form one row or course. Arrangements of brick took on various forms and patterns, resulting in different types of bonds. These include the Common bond, with every sixth course composed of headers; the English bond, and the Flemish bond, with alternating stretcher and header bricks present on every course.

Targeting a local market or area for a masonry or stone works business can be challenging when the business is in its beginning stages. An effective and affordable method for promoting the business is the use of print marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, and catalogs. Printing companies like UPrinting, Visit UPrinting.com for example, offers customers the chance to design and order prints online through their website, by calling a toll free number or via live chat.
